Which spring flowering bulbs can you plant?
Spring flowering bulbs are a great addition to any garden, bringing colour and vibrancy to the landscape after a long winter. And there are so many different types of spring flowering bulbs that you can plant! Here are some of the most popular spring flowering bulbs to plant:
- Daffodils
- Tulips
- Hyacinths
- Crocuses
- Snowdrops
With so many options to choose from, there's sure to be a spring flowering bulb that will suit your garden's style and add a splash of colour to your outdoor space!
When to plant flower bulbs?
Flower bulbs are divided in two types: spring flowering bulbs and summer flowering bulbs. The names already tell you when these flowers are ready to show you their beauty.
- It might be a bit confusing, but spring flowering bulbs are to be planted in autumn. The best time to plant spring flowering bulbs is from September until early December.
- Summer flowering bulbs, on the other hand, can be planted once night frost has passed. Usually, this is around April or May.
Tip: We advise you to plant bulbs 3 times as deep into the ground as their height. Is your bulbs 5 centimetres high? Plant it 15 centimetres deep using a handtool such as a trowel.

Which types of seeds are good for your own produce?
When it comes to seeds, there are many options available. Fruit seeds include those for berries, stone fruits, and citrus fruits. Vegetable seeds include those for root vegetables, leafy greens, and brassicas. Here is a list of vegetables that you can grow in your home garden:
- Lettuce: 30-50 days from seed to harvest.
- Carrots: Approximately 70-80 days from seed to harvest.
- Radishes: Usually ready to harvest in 25-30 days.
- Potatoes: Approximately 60-120 days from seed to harvest.
- Squash: Approximately 50-70 days from seed to harvest.
Is it a lot of work to grow your own vegetables?
First, let us reassure you that you do not need acres of land to start your own vegetable garden. Another myth is that it is a lot of work to grow your own fresh vegetables. It doesn’t have to be! If you want to grow your own herbs to use while cooking and pick your own tomatoes, that is not a lot of complicated work.
It’s fairly easy and with the right garden tools, growing media and some tender, love and care, you’ll be enjoying your own kitchen garden in no time!
